Is the Balti a Birmingham dish?

Media reports that Birmingham could trademark the word ‘balti’ have prompted debate regarding the origins of the dish.

Our beloved balti is widely understood to have first appeared in the UK in 1977 when immigrants from northern Pakistan settled in the Sparkhill area of Birmingham.

But of course other towns and cities in the UK claim otherwise and they are now all lining up to stake a claim.

So what do you think?
