Junction Improvements to start on Hagley Road
A scheme to improve a major junction on the Hagley Road, a key route into the city, is due to start soon with motorists being advised of possible delays.
Work on the junction of the Hagley Road, Bearwood Road and Lordswood Road, which sits on the border with Sandwell, will start on Monday 10th February and is expected to last for 28 weeks.
To allow the work to be carried out safely, some lane closures and restrictions will be in place during off-peak hours however the road will remain open and access to all properties and businesses in the area will be maintained.
The scheme will include carriageway widening, upgraded traffic signals and improved pedestrian crossing facilities. New street lighting is also being installed and the outdated pedestrian subway will be removed.
Temporary crossings for pedestrians will be in place while the new signals are installed.
Local businesses and residents in the area, as well as the local schools whose pupils use the crossing facilities on the junction, have been informed of the upcoming works.
A spokesperson for Birmingham City Council said: “The improvements to this junction will help to ease congestion issues and address road safety concerns.
“The current outdated subway facility is frequently not being used and people are putting themselves and others at risk by crossing the carriageway where there are no pedestrian facilities.”
