Birmingham Final of Young Consumers of the Year 2010

Teams from 9 Birmingham Schools (Bordesley Green Girls, Kings Norton Girls, Swanshurst, Kings Norton Boys, Saltley, Arthur Terry, Ninestiles, Handsworth Wood Girls and Hillcrest) are competing for the opportunity to represent Birmingham at the Regional Final of the Young Consumers of the Year 2010 in April and, if successful, the national final at the annual conference of the Trading Standards Institute in Edinburgh this June.

The competition is organised by Trading Standards and is a fun way for young people to learn more about consumer issues. Teams face questions on; Europe and Travel, Money and Finance, Health, Safety and the Environment, Food and Drink and Consumer Rights.

All team members will receive a certificate and prizes which have been donated by local companies including Marks and Spencer, Cadburys, Boots, The Entertainer and Selfridges.

The competition was first devised by officers from Birmingham Trading Standards in 1987 and has developed into a national event with teams from England, Scotland and Wales taking part.
