Birmingham’s Deputy Lord Mayor today issued a reminder that if you want to design a Flag for Birmingham you have until 31 March to submit your entry.
Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Mike Leddy, chair of the Birmingham Flag Project Team, said: “This is an amazing opportunity for somebody to create a people’s flag for Birmingham and help instil civic pride in this wonderful city. We have had lots of very imaginative designs, particularly from our younger citizens, but there is still time to grab some paints, pens or a mouse and create a flag design. It doesn’t matter how old you are, or whether you’re amateur or professional, we want to see your flag.”
The ‘People’s Flag for Birmingham’ competition is free to enter and open to all. The deadline for entries is 31 March. Judges will then draw up a shortlist of five designs to put forward to a public vote from 11 May till 28 June. The winner will be announced week commencing 13 July and they will be presented with the first flag. This will then be registered as the official flag for Birmingham and will be free for anyone to use from that point on.
Entry forms along with hints and design guidelines are available on the Birmingham City Council website at www.birmingham.gov.uk/communityflag
