Last Chance to see West Midlands Open

wm openIt is the last chance to see the impressive West Midlands Open at the Gas Hall at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery before it closes on 2nd May 2010.

The exhibition celebrates the incredible wealth and breadth of artistic talent in the West Midlands region. The show includes 146 artworks that have been selected by an independent panel of judges from over 1,200 entries submitted by more than 500 regionally based artists.  Both professional and amateur artists are showcased at the exhibition which includes drawing, sculpture, photography, prints and audio visual work.

Amongst the works on display is In the American West Midlands, Kenny Ashurst, Bricklayer, St Helens, Merseyside (2009), by photographer Lorentz Gullachsen which was awarded the £1,000 first prize by the panel of judges. 

Councillor Martin Mullaney, Birmingham City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture, said: “The West Midlands Open has shown the wealth of artistic talent in the region.  As we bid for UK City of Culture we can be proud that the Gas Hall at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery has been able to offer these artists such a prestigious venue to show their work.”

The West Midlands Open exhibition will also offer an opportunity to purchase the original artwork on display which buyers will be able to take home when the exhibition closes.
