The Lord Mayor’s Show returns to Victoria and Chamberlain Squares on Saturday 6 June from 11am until 5pm, with a free, fun-packed, family friendly event commemorating the First World War.

The annual event, which raises money for the Lord Mayor’s charities, welcomes the new Lord Mayor, Cllr Raymond Hassall, and bids farewell to the outgoing Lord Mayor, Cllr Shafique Shah.

Last year’s Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Shafique Shah, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my term as Lord Mayor and have particularly enjoyed meeting people across the city.  This year’s Lord Mayor’s Show will support the council’s programme of events commemorating the First World War and will highlight the role of women and the part that faith played during the war.

“It will also of course be a lot of fun for the whole family with free entertainment throughout the day and opportunities to go behind the scenes at the Council House.  I invite everyone to join in the celebrations.”

Entertainment includes –

  • The Staffordshire Regiment Museum’s WW1 recruitment stand, Suffragettes and Land Girls will give visitors a flavour of World War One
  • The WW1 theme continues in the Council House with talks on WW1, a fashion parade, WW1 artefacts, displays and demonstrations of a WW1 medical station and ‘make and do’ workshops.  The Council House basement will also be open so that visitors can view the WW1 memorials on display
  • Children’s donkey rides in Victoria Square
  • There’s also a chance to take tea in the Drawing Room throughout the day, and with the Lord Mayor from 3pm – 4.30pm
  • A chance to look round the Lord Mayor’s Suite, Council Chamber and Chamberlain Room and meet former Lord Mayors
  • Performances from the Midlands Military Community Choir, Band of the West Midlands Fire Service, students from Stagecoach Sutton Coldfield and an escapologist throughout the day
  • Vintage craft market, stalls representing the Lord Mayor’s Charities, the RAF, Royal British Legion and the Salvation Army
