'Maggie the Machine' swapped Twickenham Stadium for Twickenham Park in Kingstanding, Birmingham earlier today to mark the city's two year countdown to Rugby World Cup 2015 matches coming to Birmingham.

England Rugby 2015 Ambassador Margaret Alphonsi MBE

The England Rugby 2015 Ambassador, Margaret Alphonsi MBE, joined local school children and members of Aston Old Edwardian Rugby Club for a rugby session using new posts from the RFU's Posts in Parks initiative.

Each host city has received specially designed posts supplied by the RFU to encourage people, young and old, to try their hand at rugby and raise awareness of the Rugby World Cup.

Deputy Leader for Birmingham City Council, Cllr Ian Ward, said: “RFU's Posts in the Parks scheme is a fantastic opportunity for local people to give Rugby a try in the run up to the Rugby World Cup 2015.  We will have 10 individual sets of posts across the city in parks linked to local rugby clubs which will be part of our wider programme of encouraging Active Parks.

“Excitement is already building at what we plan to be a 2015 feast of rugby in the city, with South Africa versus Samoa on 26 September and Australia versus a Play off winner on 27 September already confirmed for Villa Park.  We will also have a Fan Park in the city centre for the duration of the Rugby World Cup.  These along with the Posts in the Parks scheme and activity in local clubs will provide the impetus for a real and lasting rugby legacy for Birmingham.”
