Meals on wheels keep rolling

The City’s Meals Direct Service has continued as normal despite the severe weather.

Councillor Sue Anderson, Cabinet Member for Adults and Communities, said:

“The service is a life line for our most vulnerable residents, and our dedicated staff are doing everything they can to get meals delivered. No one who needs a hot meal has gone without.

Staff have carried out hourly risk reviews as the weather conditions have changed and adjusted the service accordingly, for example, allowing drivers to start delivery rounds early as the route takes longer.

Staff have been really excellent, arriving for work early and battling the snow to get in to work.

The service has also been supporting our Day Centres by taking on extra deliveries, as some day centres had to close. People from the day centre who were unable to provide a meal for themselves received an extra delivery.

Home and Night care services have also responded as normal, they have been prioritising calls and ringing people up to check on them”.
