The Fire Service notified the BCC Control Room at 11:50hrs of an unsafe crane (150m tall) on a construction site bounded by Albert St, Masshouse Lane and Moor St Ringway.

Emergency Planning Duty Officers are liaising with Police and Fire Services who are at the scene.  The construction site has been evacuated.  The Police are maintaining a cordon and have closed off the following roads: Moor St, Fazeley St, Park St, Curzon St, New Bartholomew St and New Canal Street.

At this stage it is understood that the Fire Service are satisfied all persons evacuated from the construction site are accounted for, without injury or harm.  Police have confirmed that whilst there is no imminent risk to the public there may be a decision to dismantle the crane and this would take several hours.

Traffic management is ongoing as road closures remain in force. BCC Control Room has confirmed that after the initial disruption, traffic flow does not currently appear to be significantly heavier than normal for the time of day. Fire Control have confirmed specialist equipment is at the scene to assist with monitoring crane movement.

The Council continues to update the www.birminghamprepared.gov.uk website, including a link to the National Express website which has details of bus service disruption.
