The woman responsible for running Birmingham’s markets was named Market Officer of the Year at a national awards ceremony yesterday (20 April 2015).
Amanda Prosser-Davies – who joined the management team of the Bull Ring Markets in February 2014 – was honoured at the event, part of the National Market Traders Federation AGM, held in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire.
It is the first time a Birmingham City Council officer has received the Dennis Williams Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to an individual who traders feel has gone the ‘extra mile’ for their market.
Traders working on the Rag Market, one of the three retail markets that make up Bull Ring Markets in Birmingham city centre, nominated Amanda for this award.
Amanda, Operations Manager for Bull Ring Markets, said: “I’m pleased and honoured that traders decided to nominate me for this prestigious award.
“I am surprised by this as I am just doing my job, to help traders on our markets serve their customers, and I’ve not been here that long.”
Jacqui Kennedy, Director for Regulation and Enforcement for Birmingham City Council, congratulated Amanda on a ‘well-deserved win’.
She said: “This is great news for Amanda and the markets: it’s a well-deserved win that recognises her dedication and commitment to Bull Ring Markets.
“Also the fact she was nominated by market traders, shows how well-respected she is by the markets community. Congratulations!”
