Birmingham City Council tenants will be receiving repairs from new contractors for their homes from 5 April 2010.
It follows news that the council has saved Birmingham citizens £30 million, after awarding maintenance contracts for council housing to companies that have demonstrated exceptional quality and value for money. All new contracts will run to October 2015.
Tenants living in Erdington, Ladywood, Perry Barr and Sutton Coldfield, will continue to have their homes repaired by Willmott Dixon (formally known as Inspace). Gas servicing and repairs in these areas will be undertaken by P.H.Jones.
Mears will continue to repair and maintain the homes of tenants living in Hodge Hill and Yardley. Mears will also undertake both gas servicing and repairs within these two areas.
Tenants living in Edgbaston, Hall Green, Northfield and Selly Oak will receive a repairs and maintenance service from Willmott Dixon. Gas servicing and repairs for these areas will be delivered by Morrison.
Elaine Elkington, Strategic Director of Housing and Constituencies at Birmingham City Council said, “I am delighted by the £30m saving we made as part of the selection process for the new contractors and I am committed to providing an efficient service for our tenants, whilst ensuring we get the best value for our money. The contracts have been implemented in a seamless transition over the Easter weekend.”
A tenant representative said, “We have been involved in all aspects of the tender process from initial invitations to the final evaluation of tenders. We feel that we have secured the best partners to continue to provide a first class service to both tenants and leaseholders”.
The scope of the repairs and maintenance contract will cover such work as emergency repairs, right to repair jobs, responsive repairs and empty property maintenance. The gas contracts will include gas servicing, gas repairs and installations.
