New head of HR appointed

Birmingham City Council has today (February 9) announced the appointment of a new Human Resources Director to oversee workforce issues for the organisation.

Dawn Hewins, who began her career in public service in 1994, is an experienced HR and organisational development specialist with a wealth of public and private sector leadership experience in the design and management of organisational capability, major change transformation programmes and employee engagement initiatives.

At Stoke-on-Trent City Council she worked in a number of senior roles including Assistant Director Human Resources & Culture Change and was responsible for a range of HR functions as well as leadership and strategy development for organisational culture change, and the delivery of significant savings for the authority.

She will take up her new role in Birmingham at the beginning of March.

Angela Probert, Strategic Director Change and Support Services at Birmingham City Council, said: “I am very happy to welcome Dawn to Birmingham City Council.

“As well as heading up the human resources service, Dawn will play a pivotal role in working with me and the council’s senior leadership team to address the challenges the council faces over the next few years whilst ensuring the best quality services are delivered to the people of Birmingham.”

Dawn added: “I am delighted to be joining Birmingham City Council as Human Resources Director and look forward to working with managers and staff to address the challenges being faced at Birmingham whilst putting people and the council’s values at the heart of the organisation.”
