Over 600 new homes underway in Kings Norton

in News

Construction work on the latest council houses in Kings Norton is underway, thanks to Birmingham City Council's house building arm - Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust (BMHT).

New houses are being constructed on Pool Farm Estate and Grange Farm Drive Estate in conjunction with Kier Partnership Homes.

The properties are part of 628 new homes for rent and sale as part of the Birmingham Affordable Rent Programme - funded partly by the Homes and Communities Agency.

Houses in Kings Norton will be delivered by BMHT over the next three years, and will include a mix of two, three, four and five bedroom houses.  The development is due to be completed by the end of October 2013.

The houses will be a mix of rent and outright sale, and will showcase exceptional design, space standards and energy efficiency. Residents will subsequently benefit through reduced running costs and energy bills.

Cllr Tahir Ali, Cabinet Member for Development, Jobs & Skills, said: “Pool Farm and Grange Farm Drive estates have long been identified as a priority area for regeneration, this development mark the beginning of over 600 new properties which will give the area a new lease of life.”

The HCA have provided grant funding of £6.7m for the Birmingham Affordable Rent Programme overall, which represents 100% of the amount bid for by the City Council.

Birmingham City Council's Cabinet Member Cllr Tahir Ali, was joined by representatives on both sites from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), local ward councillors and housebuilders Kier Partnership Homes, who are building the 104 high quality homes for rent and sale.

Chris King, Kier Partnership Homes Managing Director, commented: “We are delighted to be continuing our involvement with Birmingham City Council and Birmingham Municipal Housing trust on these two prestigious new developments.

“The high-quality and spacious new homes already being delivered by our development at Balaam Wood have proved to be extremely popular and outstanding value for money. We are very much looking forward to delivering a similarly exciting range of new homes to Kings Norton, both for private sale and to address the need for high-quality Birmingham City Council affordable homes in the area.”

Through this development Kier Partnership Homes has created an opportunity for local apprentices to work on the project, and the housebuilders continue to work with local companies wherever possible.

The rented homes will be delivered by the council's Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust
