Almost 100 volunteers from a global company will work with the local community in Erdington to clean-up Brookvale Park in readiness for the Heart of Erdington Community Games.

Cllr Penny Holbrook, Erdington District Chair, has welcomed the working partnership of local council officers, park staff and international construction company Interserve.

Eighty Interserve employees, based in Erdington, will carry out maintenance and improvements work in the Park.  This will involve a range of activities including painting park benches, repairing and resurfacing paths.

The activity will take place at the Park on 26 June at 1.00pm and will help prepare for the Heart of Erdington Community Games to be held at Brookvale Park on Saturday 30th June.

The Games involve local people and is aimed at bringing the community together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by, and in celebration of, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Local Cllr Penny Holbrook, Erdington District Chair, said: “I'm delighted that local officers, businesses and the local community have come together to make improvements to the area.  Brookvale Park is a very important local facility that we are always striving to maintain and improve.

“The partnership is a perfect opportunity to afford something practical to the Park, the people who use it, employees of Interserve, and the community as a whole.  Working with an international company that has a strong local outlook is refreshing and welcomed.”

Local user groups will also be involved with the clean-up ready for the Games.  Members of the sailing and canoe club will clear Witton Lakes, Friends of Brookvale Park will provide refreshments facilities.  Local artists will provide mosaics to be laid by Interserve.
