Photo competition for Ladywood and Handsworth

By on 04/12/2014 in News

The MyNeighbourhood (MyN) project together with Birmingham City Council is organising a photography competition aimed at identifying the best picture of the Ladywood and Handsworth neighbourhoods.

The competition is open to the general public, however children are especially encouraged to participate. All schools in the neighbourhoods have been invited to take part in this competition as visual storytelling helps showcase communities in a compelling and dynamic way, particularly to children.

The competition is organised in Birmingham as well as in three other European cities: Lisbon, Aalborg and Milan. A winner will be selected in each of the countries. A photo with the highest number of votes from the community members will win a first prize – a 9″ tablet computer.

Cllr Shafique Shah, Lord Mayor of Birmingham, who helped launch the city’s version of the contest, said: “This is a great opportunity for local communities to use photography as a means to celebrate and illustrate the rich diversity of our neighbourhoods.

“I am particularly looking forward to seeing the well-known places through the eyes of our children. This is always so inspiring and helps us to change the perspective on the way we see the world.â€

The competition runs from until December 31. A winner will be chosen by January 11, 2015.

In order to take part in the competition entrants need to register on the platform and upload photos under the ‘THE BEST PICTURE OF LADYWOOD & HANDSWORTH NEIGHBOURHOOD’ Challenge.
