Rebuttal: Audit Commission's housing inspection

By on 05/08/2011 in News, Rebuttals

Birmingham City Council's Housing service has not been downgraded - as reported in today's Birmingham Mail.

Elaine Elkington, Strategic Director for Homes and Neighbourhoods, said: “Following the review of the Landlord Services inspection held in March 2010, the Audit Commission awarded this area of the housing service a one-star with promising prospects for improvement.  This is the first time the Landlord Service, i.e. services to tenants, has been inspected.  It is inaccurate, therefore, to refer to any downgrade.

“The Council retains its Strategic Housing inspection result from 2009 which rated the service as a 'good, two-star' service, with 'excellent' prospects for improvement.  For this service, we remain in the top 5% of councils nationally.”
