13,467 parent/carers submitted a local authority preference form requesting a reception place for their child before the offer of places on 16 March 2009 (down 94)

31,968 preferences were expressed

2,199 (16.3%) applications were made on-line (up 817 / 6.1%)

 11,802 (87.6%) were offered their first preferred school (up 0.1%)

879 (6.5%) were offered their second preferred school (down 0.1%)

285 (2.1%) were offered their third preferred school (down 0.4%)

 12,966 (96.2%) pupils were offered one of their preferred schools (down 0.4%)

 468 (3.5%) pupils who live within Birmingham were offered a provisional place at a school that was not one of their preferences. (This compares with 457 pupils (3.4%) in March 2008).
