Refuse collection industrial action – August 11 and 15

A Birmingham City Council spokesperson said: “Despite continued talks with representatives from Unite which have seen some significant movement in negotiations, we have still not be able at this point to reach an agreement over issues that have been raised about terms and conditions for refuse collection staff.

“We will continue to talk to the unions with a view to reaching a resolution, but, regrettably, there will be periods of industrial action by refuse collectors and street cleaners on the mornings of August 11 and August 15.

“We expect there will be some disruption to services. Residents are asked to put our their refuse and recycling as usual. If it is not collected, we would ask that people take any uncollected bags, boxes and bins back onto their properties, and to present them again when their next scheduled collection is due (one week's time for refuse and two weeks' time for recycling).

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to reassure residents we are doing everything possible to resolve the issues relating to the dispute.”
