Reminder - don’t lose your right to vote in 2014

in News

People are being urged to make sure they have the right to vote in next year's elections.

Registration forms containing the current details of the people who are listed on the electoral register have been sent to all households. Reminders are now being sent to those households who have yet to confirm their details or return their forms.

People must respond in order to confirm that their details are correct or to make changes. Where there are no changes, people can confirm that their details are correct by using a freephone number, the internet or text messaging as well as the option of returning the form by freepost.

Any changes to the details on the form, for instance adding or deleting names, can only be made by completing the registration form and returning it in the freepost envelope provided.

Robert Connelly, Head of Electoral Services at Birmingham City Council, said: “I would urge all households who haven't completed their electoral registration forms to do so as soon as possible. Registering to vote is both quick and simple. Responding to the annual canvass is vital to ensure that you are able to vote.

“Anyone who is not correctly on the register will not be able to vote in next year's local or European elections. It could also prevent you getting credit, which could affect something as simple as getting a phone contract.”

Next year's elections are due to take place on May 22. For more details email: admin@birminghamnewsroom.com. Alternatively visit www.birmingham.gov.uk/election.
