Road safety webchat

Issues relating to road safety were on the agenda during Birmingham City Council's latest webchat on Monday (March 31).

Cllr James McKay, Cabinet Member for a Green, Safe and Smart City, was joined by road safety campaigner Avril Child for the session, staged from 6pm to 7pm.

Avril, from Kingstanding, lost her daughter Sarah, aged 26, after she was run over by a motorist in July 2012. Her other daughter Claire, who was heavily pregnant, was also seriously injured in the incident  - and Avril has campaigned for improved conditions on the city's roads ever since.

The city council's Cabinet recently approved the concept for a 20 is Plenty pilot project, which would see the vast majority of city roads given 20mph speed limits, and is about to launch a wider road safety strategy to address such matters.
