‘We’re all about the kids’ is the message from Cityserve which has won the MJ (Municipal Journal) Achievement Award 2017 for the Best Council Services Team at an awards ceremony in London on 15 June.

Cityserve is the council’s leading provider of non-education services to schools in Birmingham, supporting almost 300 school catering partnerships and feeding 70,000 students in Birmingham every day.

The award comes hot on the heels of last year’s APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence)  Awards, where Cityserve were finalists for ‘Best Commercial and Entrepreneurial Initiative’ and winners of the ‘Best Catering Team’ UK.

The MJ is the management journal for local authority business, and these awards are considered to be the ‘Oscars’ of local government.

Head of Cityserve Dale Wild said: “We’re incredibly proud to be recognised. This is testament to our dedicated staff and valued school partners, without whom this wouldn’t be possible.  We aspire to be the best education catering service in the UK. At Cityserve, we really are ‘all about the kids’.”

Councillor Brigid Jones, cabinet member for children and family services, said: “This is great news and I’d like to congratulate everyone in Cityserve who works so hard throughout the year to provide meals for all those children across the city. Well done everyone.”

Councillor Majid Mahmood, cabinet member for value for money and efficiency said: “This award endorses the innovative and proactive approach we have taken with Cityserve and demonstrates the value added by commercially focussed local authority services.”
