Service excellence has been rewarded by council tenants and the local authority.

Council house tenants and Birmingham City Council (BCC) staff have teamed up to recognise the work of excellent contractors, local teams and heads of service at an awards presentation in the city.

Tenants and council workers involved in housing have formed the Performance Monitoring Group (PMG) which scrutinise service performance, identify areas for improvement, and influence future service delivery.

The Certificates of Excellence Awards took place on Wednesday 10 July at 6.30pm in the Council House.

Platinum winners:
BCC Repairs Team Central - representative - Mark Wright
Mears Responsive Repairs - representative - Phil Ross
BCC Repairs Team North - representative - Michael O’Connor
BCC Repairs Team South - representative - Gary Nicholls
OTIS - representative - Rob Burgess

Gold winners include:
Willmott Dixon South - representative - Christine Cooper
Yardley District - representative - Ihjaz Afsar
Rents Team - representative - Kofi Ackah
BMHT- representative - Terry Webb
Willmott Dixon North - representative - Frank O’Rawe

Cllr Penny Holbrook, Local Service Executive Member, said: “Our tenants rely on a good service and as the local authority it's our place to provide this through the contractors we appoint.

“Those who do this well, and exceed the service expected, should be acknowledged for this.  The awards also help to drive-up service for all in this sector as the awards are a benchmark for others to strive towards.”

Information for award winners are collated over a year, assessed to consider what services have performed well - met or exceeded targets.  This information is then examined to reveal the winners who will receive certificates of excellence for their performance.

Joan Goodwin, Chair of City Housing Liaison Board, said: “This year is the introduction of the new platinum award, which is for anyone who achieves four consecutive gold awards years.  This prestigious award shows we have contractors or employees who not only achieve gold, but can also sustain it.”

Award winners are decided by PMG members. The information is reported to the City Housing Liaison Board on a quarterly basis and enables tenants to give feedback to the landlord.

The reporting process holds those who deliver services to tenants, and are contracted by Birmingham City Council, to account and help to improve service received in the future.

Ends.
