Speech: A Civic Gospel for the 21st Century?

Joseph ChamberlainBirmingham City Council supported a conference organised by Newman College on July 4 and 5 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Joseph Chamberlain, the radical mayor of Birmingham in the 1870s and a Birmingham MP until his death in 1914.

Leader of the council Sir Albert Bore gave a keynote address to the conference on the theme of “A Civic Gospel for the 21st century” asking whether we can recreate the powerful and independent city of those days.
