Birmingham City Council and Birmingham St George's Day Association have announced plans for this year's St George's Day celebrations.

On Saturday 20 April from 11am - 5pm, Victoria and Chamberlain Squares in Birmingham city centre will be filled with free entertainment, an English Seaside and the chance to meet St George and the Dragon.

Compered by Heart FM, who are also providing free face painting and giant games, there will be music from the Victoria Square bandstand throughout the day.  With funky junk percussion duo, Bang On!, three piece folk band, Waiting for Susan, nine piece reggae and ska band, The Reggaelators, vintage cabaret from The Pin Ups and dancing from The Jockey Men's Morris Club, there is something for everyone's tastes.

English food and drink will be on offer as well as a bar specialising in traditional English ales and ciders.  The beautiful Banqueting Suite in the Council House will be serving traditional English Afternoon Tea.

Lastly, the farm comes to town with a miniature horse, chicks and lambs to see, touch and feed and children can enjoy free face painting, glitter tattoos, craft workshops and children's rides.

Cllr John Cotton, Cabinet Member for Social Cohesion and Equalities said: “St George's Day is a wonderful opportunity for people in Birmingham to join together to celebrate England's rich heritage.  It is just one of many fantastic free community events planned for the coming year.”

Dave Ward, chairman of the Birmingham St George's Day Association said: “We have one of the best celebrations in the country and everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy this free, family friendly festival.”

The St George's Day celebrations are organised by Birmingham City Council in partnership with Birmingham St George's Day Association and Heart FM.  The Association has also organised a celebration concert at Symphony Hall in the evening and tickets start at £5.
