Statement on Bull Ring and Wholesale Market strike contingencies

A spokesperson for Birmingham City Council, said: “We welcome this ruling which further helps us ensure the market will remain open throughout UNISON's industrial action, as per the contingency plans already announced earlier today, separately from this process.

“Keeping the market open will help protect the livelihood of market traders and availability of its services to local business and shoppers alike.

The City Council has approached UNISON asking for an exemption from the industrial action for the Bull Ring and Wholesale markets. However as this has not been granted, we earlier today put in place contingency arrangements which will allow the markets to remain open.”
