Strategic Director for Finance & Legal to leave city council

Birmingham City Council’s Strategic Director for Finance and Legal, Jon Warlow, has announced he is to leave the authority after eight years. During this time the council has seen a difficult period of national spending reductions and he has overseen a series of budgets which have already led to the Council saving over £560 million since 2010.

He said: “The city council is on a journey of change and after eight years now is the time for someone else to take finance into the next phase. The council has set itself challenging targets in the February budget, and I know that colleagues will continue the drive to deliver those with the new interim Chief Executive.  I want to thank colleagues for their support, commitment and encouragement during my time with BCC.”

Leader of the Council, Cllr John Clancy, said: “I want to thank Jon for his hard work at the council. There is no denying we have many challenges ahead, but with the recent announcements to changes in the top-team I know we have the senior leadership in place to face them head on.”

As previously announced Mike O’Donnell and Alan Gay have joined the finance team to add extra capacity to deliver the challenging saving targets agreed at full council in February 2017.
