Where: The Carousel on Birmingham's Frankfurt Christmas Market, Victoria Square

Students from Dame Ellen Pinset Special School are to get a festive treat this Monday as they are treated to free rides on the stunning carousel at the heart of Birmingham's Frankfurt Christmas Market.

The lucky pupils are among 300 students from Birmingham's special schools being given free rides by fair operators Wilson's during the market.

The Birmingham special schools programme also offers access to an online activity pack and a complementary drink for pupils donated by the Loewenthal family who operate the drinks stalls on the Frankfurt Christmas Market.

The carousel in Victoria Square is also complemented by Wilson’s fun fair, which is based in Centenary Square  (in front of the REP Theatre) and is one of the centre pieces of the largest ever Christmas market to be staged in Birmingham, which is expected to attract over 3 million visitors during its six week run.

Stuart Hammersley, a teacher at Dame Ellen Pinsent School, said: “We have been coming to the Christmas German Market for several years now.

“Our children really enjoy the experience, it gets everybody in a Christmas mood and we much appreciate the generosity of the stall holders, carousel owner and the City Council.”

The fun fair and carousel is open 11am - 9pm seven day weeks, up until 23rd December, and this weekend will play host to life-size family favourite characters Peppa Pig, Fireman Sam, Mickey Mouse and Buzz Lightyear.
