Syrian refugee update - January 2016

Birmingham City Council welcomed its second group of refugees under the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Relocation scheme this morning (January 27).

A total of 19 individuals arrived in the city, comprising:

- One family of five
- Two individuals
- Three families of four

Following last month’s arrival of nine refugees, 22 are still to come to Birmingham, as per the pledge to offer shelter to 50 individuals, which received cross-party city council backing in September 2015.

As was the case for the first group, support to integrate all of the new arrivals into their new surroundings will be offered by Refugee Action, an organisation with decades of experience in supporting refugees to the UK.

Further updates will be made available on the remaining arrivals as and when firm details are confirmed.
