Taxi safety over the party season

in News

With the party season in full swing, Birmingham City Council is promoting the safe use of taxis and private hire cars during the festive period.

Advice on taxi safety
•    Only use licensed private hire cars or black cabs.  These are identified by doorsigns/plates/logo etc and drivers have to wear a photographic identity card.
•    Private hire cars should always be pre-booked.  If you flag one down you are not insured for that journey.
•    Never get into an unmarked car.
•    Travel with friends where possible.

Chris Neville, Head of Licensing for Birmingham City Council, said: “At this time of year lots of people are out and about celebrating, and making plans to bring in the New Year.  Using a taxi will be a popular choice for many party-goers which is why we advise to book your cab in advance with a licensed company, or to take a black cab from one of the many official ranks around the city.

“It is safer to book a taxi in this way, and should save people time and hassle at the end of the night.  Also, when you book a private hire car it also means that there is a record of your journey.

“By making your plans to travel home before-hand you can go out and enjoy yourself knowing that you won't be taking any unnecessary risks by flagging down a taxi that might be unlicensed.”
