A specially arranged West Midlands-wide jobs event staged at Vill aPark last weekend, has been hailed a great success after more than 3,000 visitors passed through the doors,

The FUTURES, Jobs for Birmingham and the West Midlands event, saw visitors able to find out about more than 500 jobs on offer in the region, as well as gaining advice on job hunting,  self employment, writing CVs and personal finances.

Among those companies seeking employees at the event was construction giant AMEY, who spoke to visitors about up to 100 jobs they currently have on offer in the area.

Cllr Neville Summerfield, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said:  “The event has proven a great success with a fantastic turn-out from both job seekers and also employers bringing jobs to the table.

“I’d like to personally thank all those who helped to make this event such a success, especially Aston Villa football club who provided the venue free of charge. Thanks to all those involved many families in the region will hopefully be able to look to the future with more optimism.”

The FUTURES event was organised by Birmingham City Council and its partners Jobcentre Plus, Advantage West Midlands, The Learning and Skills Council, Accelerate and Solihull Council, to support local citizens affected by the economic downturn.
