Timetable for 2010 Elections

With the country set to go to the polls on May 6th for both a General and local elections, officials at Birmingham City Council have urged the public to take careful note of a number of key dates in the run-up to the vote, in order to ensure they are able to exercise their democratic rights to take part:

Most important among these is  April 20th - this is the date on which the electoral roll is closed ahead of the vote.

This means you must be on the roll by 5pm on April 20th if you want to vote. If you have any doubt as to whether you are on the roll (for example you may have moved recently or have just turned 18) then please contact the elections office on 0121 303 2731.

20th April is also the deadline if you wish to submit a new application to vote by post. If you are already registered to vote by post at your current address you do not need to submit a new application.

If you are an existing postal voter, but still have not received your postal vote forms by April 29th, this is the first date from which you can be issued with a replacement form.

For the local elections potential candidates have until April 8th to formally enter their candidacy, with the lists of who is nominated in each ward to be published no later than April 12th

Last day for delivery of nomination papers (local elections):Not later than NOON on -  Thursday 8 April 2010
Publish Statement as to Persons Nominated (local elections):Not later than NOON on -  Monday 12 April 2010
Last day for requests for a new postal vote or to change or cancel an existing postal vote or proxy appointment:Not later than 5 pm on -  Tuesday 20 April 2010
Deadline for applications to be included on the Register in order to vote in the Election:Not later than -  Tuesday 20 April 2010                                 
Last day for new applications to vote by proxy:Not later than 5 pm on -  Tuesday 27 April 2010
First day of requests to replace lost postal ballot papers  Thursday 29 April 2010
Polling Day (7 am to 10 pm)  Thursday 6 May 2010
