Cannon Hill Park will come alive with the sounds of top international and UK Asian artists as thousands celebrate UBL UK Birmingham Eid Mela this Bank Holiday Sunday from 12.30 - 6.30pm.

The free family event, which marks the end of fasting during Ramadan, celebrates the diversity of the Muslim community in Birmingham through its music, food and sport.

This year's event includes more than five hours of live music and entertainment with international artist Roach Killa top of the bill.  One of the most sought after performers from the global urban Asian music scene, Roach Killa picked up the Best UK Asian Urban Award at last year's BritAsia Awards.  He headlines an afternoon of free music and entertainment for the whole family, provided by BritAsia TV and Birmingham City Council and compered by KanDman.

Other acts include local band Dhol Unit, up and coming artist Nafees, award winning R'n'B artist Mumzy Stranger, and BritAsia TV Superstar Finalist and leading female vocalist Rubayyat Jahan.

Alongside the concert there will also be traditional kabbadi championships, street chance cricket and a market place jam packed with Asian clothes, jewellery, crafts and delicious food.

Deputy Leader for Birmingham City Council, Cllr Ian Ward, said: “Birmingham's Eid Mela is a chance for everyone to come together and join in an afternoon of fun.  It is part of the city's annual programme of cultural events and festivals and around 20,000 people from Birmingham and beyond are expected to attend.”

Chair of Birmingham Eid Mela Steering Group, Cllr Majid Mahmood, added: “Thanks to support from BritAsia TV, this year's Eid Mela celebrations will deliver some of the top national and international stars from the Asian music scene.  Sixteen acts will show the breadth and diversity of our culture from traditional dhol drumming to the best contemporary urban sounds.  I would also like to thank our key sponsors UBL UK and O2 for their support without which UBL UK Birmingham Eid Mela would not be possible.”

Mansoor M. Khan, CEO, UBL UK, said: “As one of the largest banks in Pakistan, and with six branches in the UK, we are proud to be the main sponsor for Birmingham's Eid Mela celebrations.  This event marks the end of Ramadan, Eid ul Fitre, and gives the whole community a chance to see the breadth of Islamic culture.  We would like to wish everyone a happy and peaceful Eid.”

UBL UK Birmingham Eid Mela is organised by Birmingham City Council with the support of a number of partners and sponsors including UBL UK, BritAsia TV, O2, Al Faisals, Asian World, Edgbaston Cricket Ground and Amey.
