The Leader of Birmingham City Council, Sir Albert Bore, has confirmed that Ofsted has today informed the council of their intention to start a full unannounced inspection of children's services tomorrow (19/03/14). This is part of the national programme of inspection of children's services.

Sir Albert said: “We welcome the arrival of Ofsted whose inspection will contribute to the growing understanding about what is needed to improve the care and safety of children in this city.”

The council does not intend to make further comment at this stage as it intends to direct all its capacity into the inspection. The report will be published in accordance with Ofsted's timescales.

The council was recently reviewed at the request of the Secretary of State by a team led by Professor Julian Le Grand. The report has yet to be published by the DfE.
