The popular Aston Hall by Candlelight event returns with a Victorian Christmas for 2011.  The successful biennial event runs from 2nd -11th December and tickets are now on sale.

Her Majesty, Queen Victoria, decided to make Aston Hall and park open to the public as a ‘a boon and comfort to the people of Birmingham” in 1858  following the death of the previous occupant, James Watt jnr.

One hundred and fifty three years later, she will make a return visit to Aston Hall in a re-enactment by historical performer Slyvia Strange.   She will be welcomed by Councillor Martin Mullaney, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture.

Her Majesty's original visit was at the request of the Aston Hall and Park Committee who wanted to save the Hall from either being pulled down or turned into building plots.  It was eventually purchased by the Birmingham Corporation in 1863 as a place of 'recreation' for the working classes.

Visitors to the event will be able to see actors and performers recreate a Victorian Christmas with Queen Victoria and see the two state chairs that were made specially for her original visit.

Amongst the entertainment, there will be Christmas Carols and seasonal music performed in the Great Hall around the magnificent decorated Christmas tree.

Tickets are:  £12 adults, £10 children (6-16 years) & concs, £44 family (2 adults, up to 3 children). Please call 0121 303 1966.  Tickets are also available online at
