Details: Aston Villa star Curtis Davies is to attend a party organised to give Birmingham children in care a Christmas to remember.

The Villa centre half will take on the role of Santa Claus for the day, giving gifts to 50 children aged between five and 16 at the Council House.

The event aims to provide a special Christmas treat for the group of children who are from troubled backgrounds.

Curtis Davies said: “I've always been passionate about helping those who haven't had the best start in life - particularly young people.

“I was fortunate enough when growing up to have my family around me during this magical time of year, but the majority of children who we've invited to the party don't even have that.

“I am determined to help put a smile on their faces and give them all a Christmas they'll never forget.”

The event is being organised by Birmingham City Council and the Rio Ferdinand Live the Dream Foundation.

Tony Howell, Birmingham City Council's Strategic Director for Children, Young People and Families, added: “At Christmas time most of us turn our attention to our families.

“But we should also spare a thought for those who are not as fortunate as us. For whatever reason, many children in care are not able to spend time with their family.

“We want to ensure they have as good a Christmas as anyone else and I thank Curtis Davies and the Rio Ferdinand Live the Dream Foundation for helping us give these young people a festive treat to remember.”
