Your chance to become a Birmingham Ambassador during Super September

Volunteers are being sought to become Birmingham Ambassadors during a month of high profile events expected to bring tens of thousands of visitors to the city in September.

Birmingham Ambassadors will be the public face of the city for visitors during key events such as the Rugby World Cup matches at Villa Park on September 26 and 27, including at the fanzone at Eastside Park, as well as the opening of the refurbished New Street Station and the Grand Central shopping centre, plus the Birmingham Weekender, among others. Volunteers are also required for New Street Station this month (August).

Based throughout the city, volunteers will be on hand to welcome visitors and provide information on the various events taking place and how to get around the city – a similar role to that of the London Ambassadors during the 2012 Olympics.

Although details of locations and time commitments are still being finalised, Birmingham City Council’s events team are inviting people to register their interest in helping out. All volunteers must be 18 years or older.

Councillor Ian Ward, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “September is going to be a particularly exciting month for Birmingham, with a number of high profile events bringing tens of thousands of additional visitors to our city.

“To help things run as smoothly as possible, we are looking for people to volunteer as Birmingham Ambassadors to provide a warm welcome to visitors, helping them find their way around the city and make the most of what we have to offer.

“This is a chance for people from all backgrounds to get involved in what will be a hugely important time for Birmingham, so I hope that as many people as possible will sign up and take advantage of this exciting opportunity.”
