10 days to go until Birmingham Heritage Week begins

Birmingham Heritage Week organisers are encouraging local people and visitors to explore the city and learn something new about its history as the countdown to more than 200 events begins, with 10 days to go.

Whether people are new to the city or have lived here their whole lives, Birmingham Heritage Week (8 to 18 September 2016) features a wide range of events - many of which are free - providing opportunities to see and learn things about Birmingham they may never have known before.

Birmingham’s buildings, culture, history and people will be celebrated this year, with something for people of all ages.

Cllr Waseem Zaffar, Chair of  the Birmingham Heritage Week Steering Group, said:  “This year we have events organised by 70 fantastic community-based organisations, working in partnership with Birmingham Museums Trust and Birmingham City Council.

“We’ve got events celebrating the amazing history and heritage of our city. Birmingham Heritage Week offers us an opportunity to celebrate the immense diversity of our great city. We’ve got the stories of how communities have come, gone and stayed in our city also being showcased. Please do get involved and attend many of these events.”
