Boxing clever to beat graffiti
A Walmley resident is celebrating after receiving a £50 shopping voucher in recognition of her efforts to keep her local area clean and green.
Brenda Gardner was one of eight environmentally conscious residents from Sutton Coldfield who signed up for Birmingham City Council’s Adopt a Cable Box scheme.
The initiative has seen volunteer residents agree to look after cable boxes near their homes that have been daubed with graffiti.
After the boxes were identified, council officers then painted them with an anti-graffiti coating, and the community-minded residents were then equipped with cleaning wipes to look after them in the future.
A prize draw was staged for those taking part in the scheme, and Mrs Gardner, who was the lucky winner, said: “I was only too happy to volunteer, as the ongoing graffiti has been an eyesore for some time.”
Cllr Anne Underwood, Sutton Coldfield Constituency Chairman, who presented the voucher, added: “I encourage more people to come forward and together we can keep our neighbourhoods clean.”
Virgin Media cable boxes are being anti graffiti coated throughout Sutton Coldfield Constituency. The coating enables graffiti to be removed with wet wipes or a damp cloth.
