Brum celebrates silver surfers
A range of fun events for older people has been organised by Birmingham City Council to bring people together and celebrate their contribution to the city, in recognition of UK Older People’s Day on Thursday October 1.
Councillor Sue Anderson, Cabinet Member for Adults and Communities, said:
“This is a chance to dispel the stereotypes and show that Birmingham’s older people are the most sociable in the country. People will be spoilt for choice, we have silver surfing, Town Hall tea dances, Tai Chi classes and even an elderly Olympic games, it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and have some fun.”
A total of over 50 events will be taking place in Birmingham before, during and after Older People’s Day 2009, with the vast majority being free of charge.
