Watchdog u-turn over development (Birmingham Mail, page
English Heritage backs campaigners fighting to stop planning permission being granted for 16 homes on the Moor Pool Estate in Harborne. Residents fear if permission is granted it will open the door for bigger projects on the estate. Cllr Deirdre Alden quoted supporting the campaign. Article says the council is recommending approval. Planning officer quoted claiming proposals pay respect to local character.

Shoppers fainting in heatwave (Birmingham Mail, page 1)
Story on impact of yesterday’s hot weather claims shoppers and staff in Debenhams in the Bullring have been fainting. Debenhams spokeswoman quoted saying the store’s cooling system was struggling to cope. West Midlands Ambulance also reveal they struggled to cope with number of heat-related calls as temperature neared 30 degrees.
