Birmingham’s new Lord Mayor – Cllr Carl Rice – has taken up office after the Mayor Making ceremony which took place at the Council House on Tuesday (24 May).

He was elected councillor for Ladywood Ward in May 1987 and has held many roles in his 29 years as a councillor – most notably Chair of Leisure Services, Ladywood District Committee, Thinktank & the main Overview & Scrutiny Committee.

Lord Mayor of Birmingham Cllr Carl Rice said: “During my year as Lord Mayor I hope to highlight the work of the voluntary sector in Birmingham and I want to celebrate the role of women in making Birmingham a great city.

“I am also excited about launching the new look Lord Mayor’s Charity which will support good causes and projects in Birmingham for the people of Birmingham.

“One of my first duties will be to attend the Lord Mayor’s Show on Sunday 12 June at Cannon Hill Park.  This year’s show celebrates The Queen’s 90th birthday and promises to be a fantastic day out for the whole family with plenty for everyone to enjoy.”

Tickets are also on sale for the Lord Mayor’s Ball on Friday 24 June and – coming on the eve of Armed Forces Day - this year’s event has a military theme.

Guests will enjoy a drinks reception in Birmingham Council House’s prestigious Banqueting Suite followed by a three-course dinner and live entertainment at the Town Hall.

Tickets cost £85 per person and are available through Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lord-mayors-charity-ball-2016-tickets-25207012854?aff=es2).
