Deadline for Secondary transfer looming

Parents and carers of year 6 children are reminded that the final deadline to submit their secondary school application is 31 October.

Birmingham residents making an application for a year 7 place starting in September 2014 were strongly advised to apply online by 1 October.  However the final date for acceptance of late preferences, or a change of preference due to moving home etc, is Thursday 31 October 2013.

Emails offering a secondary school place are sent to applicants who have applied online on Monday 3 March 2014.  Letters are also posted the same day and should arrive at applicants' home addresses by Tuesday 4 March 2014.

Notes to editors

Last year Birmingham City Council's school admissions and pupil placements team offered advice and guidance to parents/carers and pupils and processed over 15,000 applications for secondary school places.

The number of parents/carers who were offered their first preferred school last year rose to 73.6%, an increase of over 5% on the previous year, and almost 95% of parents/carers were offered one of their preferred schools.
