One week until Brandwood bin deliveries
Wheelie bins will start to be delivered in Brandwood for the Birmingham City Council pilot scheme next week.
Ahead of this a card is being sent to all households involved with the pilot, informing them of the collection days for their rubbish and recycling bins, once collections begin on the week commencing June 3.
Cllr James McKay, Cabinet Member for a Green, Safe and Smart City, said: “The use of wheelie bins means we have had to look at the rounds worked by our crews, and to ensure operational efficiency it may mean there are some changes to bin collection days for some households.
“Therefore I would urge residents in Brandwood to take a few moments to read the card when it arrives to make sure they put their bins out on the correct days.”
To avoid any confusion, when wheelie bins are delivered they will be marked with the property number.
Householders will also receive a leaflet with their new wheelie bins that gives practical information on how to store them, what to put in them and key safety advice.
A similar process will take place in the other pilot ward of Harborne. Letters will be sent out during the week commencing June 10, bins will be delivered a week later, with the first collections on the week commencing June 24.
Green garden waste collections will continue as a sack service until the end of November only, with an opt-in paid-for (£35 annual charge) service due to start in 2014.
As of April 1 of this year, Birmingham City Council has stopped the provision of sacks for rubbish and green waste as part of the effort to meet government budget cuts. Householders now need to provide their own.
Properties judged by the council as unsuitable for wheelie bins will continued to be served by a bags and boxes refuse collection system.

Just had the card through today. I notice it says-“West Midlands Fire and Police advise that, IF POSSIBLE, you should keep wheelie bins in a secure location”. Well, perhaps if you had listened to the many people who said that they had no where to keep the things, we might not have had them FORCED onto us! Also, the card says that, for so called, `Assisted Collections`, WE have to make the bins, “Easily accessible for the collection crew”. We cant have THEM struggling can we???
A pity no-one ever asked us if we wanted these things.
