The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Greg Clark MP, has shown his support for the creation of a Sutton Coldfield Parish Council in a statement read out by Birmingham City Council Leader Cllr John Clancy - “I would like to congratulate Sutton Coldfield on their new Parish Council, created thanks to the overwhelming support of local people.

“As we oversee the biggest transfer of powers from Whitehall to Town Halls in a generation, I wish Sutton Coldfield Town Council and new Parish Councillors in Sutton Coldfield success.”

The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Raymond Hassall, then formally presented the Sutton Coldfield Civic Regalia to the chairman of the Interim Parish Council, Cllr Anne Underwood, during a Civic Reception at the Council House today (Tuesday 1 March).

The formal handover was authorised earlier this year in order to acknowledge the establishment of the Parish of Sutton Coldfield and the Interim Parish Council.
