The Last of England – not for sale

The Last of England by Ford Maddox BrownAn article in the Independent on Thursday July 14 incorrectly suggested Birmingham City Council is selling or has sold The Last of England by Ford Madox Brown.

That is wholly inaccurate and the reporter was told in no uncertain terms that there were no plans to sell paintings from the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery collection.

We have requested a correction from the Independent and wish to make it clear there is no truth in this suggestion.
