Local Elections 2011 – Background briefing pack

Birmingham City Council is staging a local election on May 5th 2011. One third (40) of the seats on the council will be up for election.

Polls will be open 7am – 10pm with counting taking place immediatley and results expected to be declared from middnight .

Council seats up for election in 2011: 16 Con, 13 Lab, 10 LD, 1 Respect

Total nominations by party: Con -40, Lab - 40, LD - 40, Green - 39, BNP - 15, UKIP - 11, Respect - 3, Social Democratic Party - 3

Total: 191
